Two Open Positions on The Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors

The Mississippi Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors announces two open positions for qualified Licensed Professional Counselors interested in serving on the Board.

Open Positions

  • District 1 — Position beginning July 1, 2026.
  • District 2 — Immediate opening to fulfill the remainder of the term ending June 30, 2028.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria (Miss. Code Ann. § 73-30-5):

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in good standing in Mississippi.
  • Full-time resident of the district for which they are applying, as defined by congressional district boundaries as they existed on January 1, 2002.
  • Primarily engaged as a licensed counselor in private or institutional practice
  • All members shall be qualified electors of the State of Mississippi.

How to Apply

Mississippi law (Miss. Code Ann. § 73-30-5) provides that “a list shall be provided to the Governor by the Mississippi Counseling Association from which the Governor may choose board members.”  Qualified LPCs may also submit materials directly for consideration by the Governor’s office. Both pathways are described below. The deadline for both is April 15, 2026.

  • Submission through the Mississippi Counseling Association (MCA)

LPCs who wish to be considered through MCA’s nomination process should contact MCA Executive Director Jayme Sullivan at mcaoffice@mscounselor.org for application materials and submission instructions. Completed applications and required supporting documents must be received by April 15, 2026.

  • Direct Submission to the Governor’s Office

Interested LPCs may submit the following directly to boardappointments@lpc.ms.gov by April 15, 2026. The following materials will be received and forwarded to the Governor’s Office for consideration.

  • Current resume or curriculum vitae
  • Indication of which district position you are seeking (District 1 or District 2 according to the 2002 congressional district map)
  • Brief statement of your desire and intent to serve on the MS LPC Board
